Tesla Vision Park Assist for Model 3 and Model Y in Australia
Tesla released the 2024.14.5 update, which includes Tesla Vision Parking Assist. This feature helps users park their Tesla in a new and innovative way. Although Ultrasonic Sensors (USS) give a precise estimate of obstacles when they are very close, the latest vision system does a decent job overall. I tested this update on my Tesla Model Y and noted some pros and cons of this feature.
What included the 2024.14.5 update?
Tesla 2024.14.5 notes
You can now choose to enable Tesla Vision Park Assist. It displays a high-fidelity 3D representation of the area around your vehicle, including the proximity and shape of nearby objects, barriers, vehicles, and painted road markings.
To enable it, go to your vehicle settings > Autopilot > Park Assist > Tesla Vision.
Park Assist is for guidance purposes only and is not a substitute for an alert driver. Remain attentive and avoid obstacles as required.
Once users in Australia receive this update, they can activate it through the vehicle’s settings. Note that for older models equipped with Ultrasonic Sensors (USS), activating Tesla Vision will disable the USS functionality. The good news is that you can switch between the two options in the settings.
Why Tesla Users Are Excited About This Update
The 2024.14.5 update gives users a great new view in the parking spot. It creates a 3D map of the parking area, making it easier and safer to park.
After installing this update, I went to an outdoor parking spot to compare the new Tesla Vision-based parking with the old version. It’s amazing to see how the new update lets me see the parking space lines clearly without having to rely on the rear camera.
Visualizing Tesla Vision in Open Parking Areas
For a quick comparison, I parked at a same parking spot and turned on Tesla vision first and then revert back to the Standard parking. You can see below huge improvements:
Road Side Parking
I was also curious about Tesla Visions performance for a parallel parking on streets curve side. It appears it works quite well providing accurate information about the surroundings.
Tesla Vision Inaccuracy
Tesla Vision also performs effectively in garage settings. However, a notable issue arises concerning its accuracy when parking very close to the garage wall. While the ultrasonic sensors (USS) excel when the vehicle is parked even around 30cm away from obstacles, Tesla Vision may not provide the precise measurements desired by some users. This discrepancy in accuracy could be frustrating for those seeking pinpoint parking guidance.
Another issue arises when I observe that Tesla Vision presents a very high-risk metric for wheel stoppers in parking lots.
In the photo below, the car is parked safely without touching the curb stopper, yet users receive recurring collision alerts. This can be frustrating for drivers who are confident in their parking skills, as these constant warnings can become a source of unnecessary stress. The system’s sensitivity to small objects, while intended to enhance safety, may need adjustment to differentiate between actual threats and benign obstacles.
USS system in the car, on the other hand, would provide only distance to the wall. It would not provide any information about the curve stopper.
TechWheel’s Take
Overall, Tesla Vision is a valuable addition to all Tesla vehicles. While it may not be as accurate as the 360-degree parking options offered by other brands, Tesla’s Vision system is more modern and data-driven, with the potential for continuous improvement over time.
The current version of Tesla Vision has some limitations in determining risk metrics in tight spaces, which can affect its distance calculations. However, Tesla provides regular updates, making it highly likely that Vision’s performance will improve over time.
A particularly promising aspect of Vision is its activation at very low speeds when the vehicle detects proximity to an obstacle. This feature can help many Tesla drivers avoid curb rash and other minor collisions, enhancing overall vehicle safety.

I share your level of appreciation for the work you’ve produced. The sketch is refined, and the authored material is stylish. However, you appear anxious about the prospect of embarking on something that could be considered questionable. I believe you’ll be able to rectify this matter in a timely manner.
