Australia EV Surge: EV + PHEV Market Share Hits 31.6% in 2026
Australia’s new-vehicle market reached a historic milestone in Q2 2026. Combined sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) surpassed 104,000 units in a single quarter, capturing 31.61% of all new vehicle registrations nationwide.
According to official AAA EV Index data spanning Q1 2022 to Q2 2026, the Q2 2026 national market of 330,111 new vehicles comprised 69,414 pure EVs (21.03% share), 34,937 PHEVs (10.58%), 57,919 non-plug-in hybrids (17.55%) and 167,840 internal combustion vehicles (50.84%).
